At Birati..........Kolkata,India

A couple of years ago, when Boromamu (Bishnu) had visited Kolkata, and was at my parent’s(his sister - Sunanda and her husband - Kali) house in Birati,I went to visit Boromamu and Boromami(Anuradha).I baked a cake and took it to Birati. The day happened to be my mother’s birthday .The cake did not turn out well as I had partially burnt it.I was quite upset -I also realised I would not have enough time to bake another cake. So,I had no other option but to take the one I had made.I thought nobody would like the taste.......it would taste bitter and it would be crispy instead of being soft. But I was wrong. Boromamu almost instantly had a bite and said-”Bah! besh bhalo!”(Hmmm tastes good!).I was surprised.I quickly apologised and said-”I burnt the cake.”He immediately took another bite and said,”Na, besh bhalo!”(No,it is good!).That was Baromamu! He had a way of making people feel good and valued. His remark was not only encouraging,it also saved me from further being upset. In fact I actually started feeling good.I also realised that Boromamu not only wanted to appreciate the taste of the cake, but also the effort I had put in to bake one. This was definitely one of the several other instances of his expression of unconditional love.I will always remember Boromamu's kind and thoughtful nature.
